Need to Know
« on: September 19, 2009, 06:59:30 AM »
Hi, i am very new in linux. Currently using ubuntu 8.10
i don't have internet connection. I download 'rhythmbox0.12.4.Tar' from other place. Now i want to install it in my system, but i can't manage it at all.
Is there any one who can define it in details.
Also suggest me , which is the best audio-video player for linux(ubuntu).
Any advice, specific of general, would be appreciated.

My advice would be to ask at the Ubuntu forum since we do not like Ubuntu here at all, or better yet, switch to Ark Linux and just use Amarok, which comes preinstalled in Ark. Ark is much more "sane" and better than Ubuntu in many ways -- stability, ease of use, avoidance of GTK or the likes in the core system (which takes us back to stability), etc.

Edit: There is also mplayer for both video and audio, and a proprietary Linux version of realplayer.

A great audio/video player is VLC media player. They have it for almost all OS, including Linux. Its completely standalone and pretty much plays all file formats. I agree about Ubuntu though, but it certainly isn't a bad OS.

It's not a bug; it's an undocumented feature.

Those of you who have been watching our development tree will have noticed x86_64 packages being built over the last year or so — in the last week, I’ve extended the installer and CD build scripts to handle them the right way, and an initial snapshot build is available at http://arklinux.osuosl.org/dockyard-devel/iso/arklinux64.iso.Of course, this is a development [...]
