heh, and while this topic is open (cause i don't feel like opening too many topics at once), i have to report that the arklinux 64-bit iso that you have posted does not install on Virtualbox (freezes on configuring locales)

Actually, it is better to start different threads for different topics. Unfortunately, I made the mistake of splitting from one post above the new topic, so if you want to repost the first item in this topic to your original topic, I can fix this topic (I don't have your password, so I can't repost for you, and SMF doesn't offer an undo action for splitting topics, unfortunately).

Anyways, I have had this problem as well, both in VirtualBox and in my real hardware on my old laptop (I haven't tried on this laptop yet). I have already reported this to our head developer, so he knows about it, but thanks for confirming that it isn't just me that is having the issue. Our head developer (who goes by bero) says it's possible that there's an issue with the AMD or AMD64 drivers in the kernel (AMD64 is the 64bit architecture developed by AMD (hence the name AMD64) use by Intel as well to be backward compatible with 32bit), or the PATA driver (though I doubt it's the PATA driver because I tried it on both IDE and SATA on VirtualBox, and had the same problem both times). At any rate, the new ISO that should hopefully come out soon will be using a newer kernel, so we're hoping for a fix to the problem; I won't give a time frame on which to expect the new ISO -- we don't work on a set time frame, we release based on when it seems to be ready for our tests, and when we know it's ready for the stable releases. This ensures that we give a high-quality product every time.

Known problem that should be fixed in the next build (through the kernel upgrade) - I hope to push one out really soon now.

I can't give any exact timelines though, I have to finish some work for the day job that has to take precedence (interesting work too -- building a minimalistic OS for an embedded device. Can't give any details before the device is in the shops though, the customer would shoot me ).

But the good news is that the OS on the device will use some of the same components we're using here, so I'll get to spend some day job time on fixing issues with init.
